It’s an election year which means: We need you!

Nominations are open now, but…

We wanted to take a minute to tell you a little bit about what we do, to help dispel some of the scary unknowns and help you decide which position might interest you.

A few key notes first:

  • All Officers must reside in the state of North Carolina.
  • All Officers must be paid members of the Alumni Association. (Don’t worry we’ll check for you if you’re nominated.)
  • All Officers will be elected for a period of two years, and may be re-elected once, for a maximum term of four years in any office.

Here is a link to the Constitution with the full technical descriptions, but the goal of this is to give you a better idea of the day to day.

President

  • presides over the board meetings (usually electronically once a month)
  • approves expenditures along with the Treasurer (typical expenditures for a year are donations to each campus, restocking of alumni day supplies, and website maintenance)
  • creation of committees to perform special tasks as needed
  • attendance at Board of Governor’s meetings
  • serving on the Governor’s School Foundation board
  • assisting with registration and sign in at Alumni Day
  • assisting with new alumni registration at Closing Day

Vice-President East & Vice-President West

  • attends the board meetings (usually electronically once a month)
  • in the event that the President is unable to complete their term, the Secretary, Treasurer, and Alumnus-at-Large will select either the VP-East or VP-West to complete the term
  • lead committees to perform special tasks as needed
  • assisting with registration and sign in at Alumni Day
  • assisting with new alumni registration at Closing Day

Secretary

  • attends and takes minutes for the board meetings (usually electronically once a month)
  • maintain mailing address for the GSAA (this duty has varied at times depending on current needs)
  • run elections in each even year
  • serving of committees to perform special tasks as needed
  • assisting with registration and sign in at Alumni Day
  • assisting with new alumni registration at Closing Day

Treasurer

  • attends the board meetings (usually electronically once a month)
  • approves expenditures along with the President (typical expenditures for a year are donations to each campus, restocking of alumni day supplies, and website maintenance)
  • maintains accurate financial records, reporting status at board meetings
  • files taxes annually (you only have to answer like 4 questions)
  • maintain mailing address for the GSAA (this duty has varied at times depending on current needs)
  • serving of committees to perform special tasks as needed
  • leading registration and sign in at Alumni Day
  • leading new alumni registration at Closing Day

Alumnus-at-Large

  • attends the board meetings (usually electronically once a month)
  • serving on committees to perform special tasks as needed
  • assisting with registration and sign in at Alumni Day
  • assisting with new alumni registration at Closing Day

Nominations are open June 1 to June 15. Depending on the amount of nominees it can remain open up until June 30. The Election poll will open on July 1 and close on July 15.
