Anyone else from 1976 there? I was from Elizabeth City NC, and my older brother Danny also attended GS, in 74 I think. Great experience. Funny, now I'm married w/ 2 children, and we live only 10 minutes from Salem College. Still a beautiful campus!

OK, so I understand that this site is more visited by those recently graduated Govees, but to the GSEers of 1997(gosh could it have been that long ago?) I just want you to know how fondly I remember all of you each day! How else could a DRAMAFREAK learned about causeway games, unlit areas, feeding the ducks, JELLO, monks and french maids, A-LEXUS(sorry nick) and all of the memories that have made me who I am! I miss you all, now more than ever as adulthood sets in... just remember, things always look better hanging upside down on the causeway!

First of all, I would like to say "SQUABLES," is French! Secondly, I am so proud of all of us GSE '03 go'ers who did not get sent home, and the ONE who did, Ashley I love ya. Next, I want all the people who heard me say "SQUAD UP," to put the signs up. I love all those who were there with me and all who were just there. J loves you and I am pretty sure that you love J. Its all fopr a reason and it took me some time to figure this out. I am still upset about us having to leave, maybe because my life isnt as exciting as it was there, or most likely because i really miss a lot of people that I met at GSE.

Wow, I think I am the first GSW 2003 Chicken to sign the guestbook. Where's the love, you guys? Anyway, I had an amazing summer. Much love to all my fellow BABCOCK 3RD FLOOR GIRLS (B3 forever, and we will NEVER forget those wonderful pranks and the Gramley Underwear Tree...) and to my fellow dancers (I love you guys!). All those great nights of ordering Chinese and watching Mandy ask the delivery boy to be her boyfriend, watching Korean movies and dirty pandas in the basement, the conjugal room, stealing Allonda's air conditioning...I love all of you very much and I miss you guys. It began with a timid group of 400 in the hot gym doing a "scavenger hunt" (props to the Sistine Chapel) and it ended wih tears with a midnight breakfast, a sunrise, many laughs, and an agitated wrecked Party City. Please drop a line every now and then. Love you!

I was thinking to myself "funny...they're supposed to be smart, so why are they all pickin their noses?" j/p. Yeah, it turns out that it wasn't just a bad first impression...Did anyone ever notice how many Fossil Blue watches i had accumulated over the summer? lol. I miss everyone, and I'm not even sure if I can go to the reunion yet...dun dun dun. Keep intouch, and might I add that this is quite a nice site? Hey everyone! I was having a GSE moment and wanted to remember all the good things I unfortunately had to leave behind last summer. Those six weeks were the best of my life, thanks to my wonderful poetry class (long live the mullet), a terrific roommate, and a few special people. I am now a freshman at Carolina, and it is great to see so many familiar faces here, many living in my dorm. It makes me feel like we are somewhat together again. For those whom I have not seen yet or who went to other schools, I miss you all and wish you the best in what you're doing. I hope to hear from some of you; my fellow freshmen here, I hope we survive this first year with a vengence! God bless.

Congratulations to all GSW 2002 alumni! I had an incredible summer and meeting you guys was the most wonderful part of everything. Vive la revolution! I suddenly have become nostalgic in my old age. Without a doubt GSW '92 was one of the top two events that have helped shaped my academic/intellectual/social life. I would love to catch up with my old cronies, so e-mail me if you happen to run across this.

Hey there kids, I went to Asheville this weekend to visit a friend and on my way homeI stopped by Salem College. To my surprise and by sheer luck, I walked onto campus and GS was in session. On top of that, the orchestra was having a performance that night. I was so happy when I was walking around, as memories of things and people long forgotten came flooding back. It was exhilirating to see the campus. I went into the infirmary hoping that Mama Carol was still there. To my disappointment she wasn't. It was there that all my fondest memories took place. Just goes to show that you really take the people and places that you've met and been with you as you move on. I will never forget anything as long as I live. As long as I can help it anyway..LOL I love and miss all my friends even if they don't remeber me. Peace out

I attended GSW '87 in Choral Music. I'm living in New York now and can't remember the last time I spoke with a GSW friend. We might want to all start catching up with each other now unless we're still promising to put it off until we all get to heaven, as if that's going to happen. Any familiars out there to my cause please write.

GSW 2001 was definitely one of the most memorable events of my life. The things I learned, the people I met, the wisdom I gained, is uncomparable at this point in my life. GSW did something that no public educational system could ever do, it taught me how to THINK. And I show an undying amount of appreciation and gratitude for North Carolina for having such a program. GSW allowed me to understand what it is like to have an internal peace. I give much love to the West Campus of 2001 and an indescribable amount of peace.

If you are a parent who is worried about your child taking part in the experience of GSW, stop! After 6 weeks of learning, sharing and growing, thinking, stretching, debate and (not to mention) washing their own clothes, your son or daughter will come home stronger, braver, more confident, more well-spoken, more sure of themselves than 4 years of high school will give them. If you are a student who is wondering if 6 weeks of classes is worth sacrificing a whole summer for, STOP! GS alum like my daughter will tell you that it is more than worth it. It is a life-changing event that will touch you to your core. You will form friendships that will last for years - maybe even forever. Take a chance. Don't be afraid to try everything new -- it's safe and fun. You'll never be sorry that you did.

GSE 2001...What can I say? Everyone who reads this take note: I do not think any GS class could ever surpass the GSE 2001 class. Things like SPEED, Milner, Fish, anything in Brewer like Britney Spears-worship services and Breezer, CLUE with Mr. Rob, the DORM WAR in the newspaper (Faircloth 1st floor was the best!!!), and the countless hours of ultimate frisbee made GSE the best...By the way, We didn't have anybody leave!!! 100% graduates. I love you all and keep in touch...Much love to Dan, my roomie, my Philosphy class with David Nunnery (remember the box he kept walking in), the MATH PEOPLES (hey, we're not art!), and everyone else....I love ya'll. Peace!

I'm looking out the window of a Florentine Villa, where I work, into the city below. I got a great job for the summer working with wonderful people and wondeful art, and I really think I wouldn't be here today if I hadn't gone to GSW in 1998. Not only was it a wonderful time, but it introduced a world bigger than North Carolina and more importantly, a world of questioning. GSW gave me an awareness of life that I will undoubtedly carry with me forever. It has been the summer that hasn't stopped. Call it luck or fate or the will of god that I got to be there that summer. Call it what you want to, but I'm glad it happened, and I hope it continues to happen to other people for a long long time. The world is truly a better place for everybody as long as there's a Governor's School in North Carolina.

Wow. It's been nearly a year, and it seems like so much has changed. On a sheerly personal level I've cut my hair. Yes that's right for those of you who haven't seen the dreadlocks are gone-- have been gone since February. As a testament to my own dedication to the GSE spirit I just sat at my computer and read the entire guest log of this website up to my last entry. It gave me this nostalgic rush which was wonderful. I would urge you all to partake of this GSE aqua vitae yourselves. I would love to fill the rest of this entry with memories but I've written a novella here already. I would like to wish you all happy trails. (I feel like I'm signing one gigantic annual here) Best wishes especially to Chuck Sullivan and his amazing poetry class! "Let be be finale of seem."-- Never have I felt the power of words more than in those few short weeks last summer. (I'm really gushing now! Sheesh!) Take care. Yours truly, chief executive officer, the prez Fish.

I'm looking through all the previous guestbook entries and it really warms this aging boomer / geezer's heart from GS'70 that all you guys from the last 3 decades found GS to be as much a life-changing experience as I did. In some of these entries, I see occassional references that obviously represent the inside alter-ego things you build there among friends...we'd had ours too, and hello to Mother Abcess, Winslow, the Harry Buffalo, Mel, Weird Harold, Fat Albert, and Blue Mom, wherever you are. (Funny as....Wayne Welch!) These are summer memories you will carry with you forever. We miss you, Kathy. WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU GS70'ERS, HUH? HEY, WAKE UP AND WRITE IN!!
