Hello all from Greenville, NC. I attended SW in '97 and have missed it ever since. It has ben a while and we have all lost touch but I will never forget the eye-opening experiences that ha at GS that have made me, in part, who I am today. I know now that it may be pointless to hop for a tear reunion of my friend from G asd I have made nd lost many friends since, but I wold like tosay that if you attended GSW '97 and you remembr me, most likely I remember you too, and il never forget you. Mama Carol,you were right. I love and miss you and I appreciate all the kindwords of adviseand coslemet you had to offer. To all my friends who remember me andall thos that don't, I think f you from time to time and miss you all. PEACE

For those wondering about the real estate ad folks are talking about, there was apparently a rather large posting to this guestbook that was an advertisement for real estate services. Obviously, this guestbook is not the proper forum for promotion of commercial goods and services, and (in my opinion) treating it as such demonstrates a supreme ethical failure on the part of the poster. The post has since been deleted, but other GSers' references to it have not ... 'cause we LIKE you. :-)

I went in '76 for choral music, back when there was the one campus at Salem College. Definitely a life-changing experience! Many of the principles I learned I use today in my work as a professor at UNCW. I would love to hear from anyone from the class of '76, a censored fine summer that was.

The 1989 GSW session was one of the best times of my life. I met a lot of great, talented people who are friends to this very day. I also had a great English professor, Guy Spears, who cracked me up on a daily basis. Philosophy class was cool, too. I would love to hear from any GSW '89 alumni. Peace!

Today I was at my parents' house rummaging through some of my old things when I ran across my yearbook from GSW '85. The memories came flooding back! I was amazed that nearly 17 years later I could put names with faces. Better yet, I could even remember where most of them were from! Thanks for the memories, my fellow alumni!

Nick Martin was without a shadow of a doubt one of hte coolest guys I met at GSW '01. He will be missed for man a year. Love ya brother!

GSW was the best time of my life. It changed me for the good, allowed me to live without my parents for 6 weeks and I made friends for a lifetime. THe memories will never be forgotten. GSW 2001!!!!!

GS'76... I lived in S. Florida for several years and I've just moved back. I wasn't sure if there was still a Governor's school..I'm so very glad there is. It changed my life. Any other "76er's" out there? I was in choral music. I remember Ane Wegworth(?) John Quillan(cello ...I think his e-mail address is here) and the Ascent of Man" with audio that didn't match the video! I think that was the only thing I didn't like about Governor's School!) Would love to chat with any other "76er's" Or... any one still have the words to "Geographical Fugue"?

Just read through the WHOLE guest book and I'm sad to report that I saw only one other person from GSE '85, but I had a blast reading the entries. Right now I am an unemployed actor so all I have is time! (and the occasional audition in SLOW January!) Would love to hear from any govies from any year living in NYC or anyone that knows me!

Hey to everyone from GSE 2001! Those six weeks at Meredith, playing my brains out on the french horn in INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC were THE best six weeks of my life. I never knew when I first moved in what i was in for, but i didn't want to leave, and I still would love to go back again. To any future GSer's: the six summer weeks that you are going to go through will literally change your life forever. I hope all of my friends from GSE 2001 are doing great, especially the music people, and very especially to the best french horn section in the world!! :-)

Hi, I attended GSE '81 in Math. I work at a university in Michigan, running the server that lets students take courses over the Internet. Even after 20 years, I still consider Governor's School as the best six weeks of my life.

OHMIGOSH..... I just discovered this guestbook... I attended GSE 2001 and it reallychanged my life. I made some friends there that were dearer to me than the peoplei considered 'best friends'at home. to anyone who went to gsw in the past couple years who either knows or has had chris bachelder as a teacher at gs, i was reading on a newsgroup and someone mentioned a book called "bear v. shark" and it was written by bachelder. anyway, i read some of the opening chapters online and it seems pretty good. i'll probably pick it up in the next couple of days. you guys who know what a cool guy chris is should check it out!

I was once again looking through this guestbook, and I found some GSW 96'rs that I had missed the last time. Even now at 22 I look back at that summer as the best six weeks of my life, and I miss those friendships now more than ever. I don't think I quite grasped the concept of "modern thinking" then mainly because I was more concerned with "modern goofing-off". But, there isn't a summer that goes by, where I don't remember those HOT days with Dr. Bob talking about....something; and I long for the ideas of GS. I guess the cliche is right, but I hate agreeing with cliche's, but I didn't realize what I had, until I was gone. And I have found that no one understands that, except those who have experienced GS. So those people whom I did my "modern goofing-off" with.....The Wrecking Crew, and my Choral music squad, write me. Just for a little bit I would love to return to being 15 without a care in the world. If only for a letter.

I would love to attend a Govenors school. It seems very interesting and it would give me a challege. Sounds very interesting. :-)

Nick Martin was an awesome guy! smart, athletic, funny, and all-around loveable! Unfortunately, his life was brough to an end, and we are all feeling the effects of this tragedy. He's in our prayers, along with his family and friends, but most of all he is in our memories and smiles. Nick was awesome! I know we are all hurting, but I'm so glad to see us all come together in mourning as one to pay our respects to such a great person! I know he's smiing down right now! Thanks Nick, for all the smiles, laughs, and good times that contributed to that unforgettable six weeks last summer!

G-school was the most amazing experience of my life! There isn't a day I dont think back on it and remember when it was ok to think independently and learn to spread my wings.

Anyone who knew Nick Martin knows how special he was. He was talented, smart, athletic, and most of all fun to be around. He could bring a smile to anyones face at any time. In this time of mourning for all of us, I ask that you remember Nick and his family and friends in your prayers. Remember the laughter and great times shared by all in his presence. well this is pretty bad...speaking from the point of one of nicks closest friends there, he was a very inteligent and gifted man and i dont know what it will be like in the future to miss him. i'm sorry if i turned this page into a euology page but i dont care whatever...i hope that as many people that can will come to pay their own final respects...brian

Nick Martin, one of my high school classmates and an alum of GSW01, died this morning (11/28/01) in a car accident he and his sister were in. Please think of and pray for the Martins, for I know the family well and they are great people. My condolences to the friends Nick made at GSW01. He wont be forgotten if you keep him alive.

Well i was reading the page and found noone realy from GSW 2K1 was signing...i think it is pretty bad what is going on with the money situation, i cant imagine what my life would now be like if i hadn't attended West...i just hope there will be enough support for Gov School now that an email notice has been sent...well i have nothing much else to say except i had an unbelievable summer and that if anyone wants to talk or are ever coming through town just call me or email.

Just had to add my little touch to this GS page! That and the fact that the last page said to put your comments about the Symposium '01 on this page, so here goes! First off, I want to thank all the GS people from previous years for their enthusiasm! It was interesting to see an idea of what it may be like for me next year. But I do have to put in one negative thing I experienced if I'm going to be completely honest, and that is the fact that some of the alums that came to GSW were very rude/disrespectful to the '01 class. I don't know if there's any way to prevent that from happening again, but I hope all of us can understand that we've all experienced an awesome thing and there's no reason to down the new groups b/c your year was so awesome. Uplift them, maybe back off a little when you're there to let THEM have the full impact of the experience without tainting it with thoughts of "it's a big competition between years" b/c we all went there and got an equally wonderful and amazing experience out of it, and though there is room for some playfulness, there's no reason to leave the alumni-to-be frustrated and upset about what went on when the old guys came in! I met the love of my life there, Lauren, (do you realize that the marriage rate for those who meet at GS and make it through high school is 78%, amazing). Just wnated to update my entry. Just finished a unit on Frued in my pshych class that made me think of GSW and the "Phallis Palace". Known to those in the outside world as the Wachovia Building. I have such fond memories of GS, and it sounds as if it is still profoundly affecting lives the same way it did for me. Now I have a teen-age son who is in the process of applying for Georgia's version of GS. I hope it is half as good as my experience was.

I ran into Marcus Cox at a friend's wedding this weekend and we got to reminiscing about our mosquito-filled time at St. Andrew's. Thanks for telling me about this site, Marcus! hey everyone - this summer at GS East was the best 6 weeks of my life. My experience taught me so much about myself and the type of life i want to live. The summer wouldn't have tbeen the way it was with out the people though. I had the best roomate ever (i love ya nicki) and the friendships i developed will stay in my heart forever. Wow, I feel so utterly enthralled that GSE 2001 touched so many people. I miss everybody so much that I'm considering building more rooms onto my house so that everybody can come live with me. Just know, those of you who read this, that I love you so, so much...and it was an absolute honor to have been with you all. And to Thedra Makids, my fellow thespians, know that SPEED was the greatest thing I've ever been a part of theater-wise. It makes me feel complete to know that we came from all different backgrounds and were brought together by our gestalt (2+2=5). "My speed is ummm, yeah."
