GSE92 -I found this site by accident; I never even knew there was such a site. I dont see much of anyone. I was in Natural Science. I still keep in touch with my roommate, Tennille Kilby. She is still singing as you might have guessed. I am excited that GSE moved to Meredith. I ended up at Meredith College for my BS in Math so I know they will enjoy the campus and Raleigh. GSE '94

Where's everyone from 89? Laura from Asheboro(drama)Jennifer Lane(english)Rhodika Murty, Laura from fayetteville who didn't like the pink twinkie things her grandma sent so she gave them to me. And other folks too. I heard the concrete slab with everyone's name etched in it is still on the bridge. We certainly left our mark. I learned that summer that some opportunities never come again! Where's that Aziza chick (the philosophy professor)? i just wanted to tell her that I learned "it's all made up!"

So, I figured after I read the comments other people made I should say more. I am saddened that no one in this guestbook if from GSE '92. And even worse, I just found out that GSE is moving to Meredith. A travesty of such proportions has not occurred in many eons. What will happen when subway and kmart are put out-of-business? ST. Andrews will no longer be a place where jubilant youth come together on the causeway in the evenings - it will just be a place for college students to walk and take classes. the horror! the horror! Governor's School West, 1990

GSW 84...What a great eexperience. Truly life-altering. Nine years in the Marines and now settled in California, but I will never forget that wonderful, humid summer at Salem College. Changed my life and really made me who I am today.

Dear Alumni, I want to mention that the recent email that went out to all who were members of GSAA maillists was sent without the GSAA consent. The email originated from Bill Roberts (BJ Roberts) asking members to visit a website. The website was a commerical venture and should have not been advertised in this manner. Jim Hart and I have emailed Mr. Roberts and repeated our policy on using any of our email addresses collectively. Basicly, Mr Roberts sent email via all of the individual maillist addresses. GSW'92. What a summer. A big ALOHA to all of you from a little island in the middle of the Pacific. Yep, I finally broke down and moved back. I haven't been able too keep in touch with very many people-except for Super Dave. Oh, and I did manage to get a hold of Kat. I miss all of the Art people. I had some great times in that studio. I'm still looking for Liz, Gillian, Garrett, Jen Shoemaker, Sharla, Frankie,the two Merediths, Will, Farah-Lisa and all of my other fellow assassins. Attending Governor's School was the best experience of my entire life. I met so many friends who've become closer to me than people I've known my entire life. I also learned so much, not only in my field of mathematics, but also in all the other areas of study. I'd like to thank all the instructors, directors, and advisors who made the Governor's School experience possible! Shouts out to all my buds from Governor's School West 1999! I haven't written in here in a while, so I thought I would post a little message. If any of you GSE 1998 folks are headed to NC State in the fall, let me know. I am heading to State on the NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship!!!! If Ted Willis ever reads this, I just want to say thank you for helping me calm my nerves at the regional finalist interviews. It was so nice to talk to someone who was not only a Teaching Fellow but a GS alumni as well. GS alumni are everywhere. Isn't it nice to know that you always have a friend in your fellow alumni? Many thanks Ted and all you other GS people who I have met along the way.

GSWest 1982, Choral Music. It's wonderful to have found this site! Sure brings back a lot of great memories. Governor's School is truly a life-changing experience. Now I'm a parent of 2 gifted kids, trying to start a Gifted Program at our Charter School. Any help out there? Thanks, Janelle :)

Hi. I'm feeling nostalgic, so anybody who remembers me from GS West '94 can drop me a line, if they so choose. I was one of the Drama geeks.

I attended GSE in 1987, played trumpet in the band. Now I'm living in Santa Fe and working as a reporter for the Albuquerque Journal. I don't know if GS changed my life but it was a good time, sort of a primer for college. One funny memory: I made a "creativity project" for Psych class with Todd Perry from Mount Airy. It was this ridiculous contraption made out of soda cans, aluminum foil and tape. We set it up in class, poured a bunch of rubbing alcohol in a couple cans and set the thing on fire. Well, the tape burned, the flaming alcohol spilled all over the floor and I heard our psych prof curse for the first time as he reached for the fire extinguisher. :) Oops...

GSW 98--Instrumental Music (Violin) I graduate from high school on June 10 and will be attending Appalachian State on scholarship, majoring in Music Therapy and minoring in Psychology.

Drama '64. GS was my first foray into independence. It was a wonderful experience and its effects are with me today. GS made me realize that I had something (undefined) and that it was not an idle quest to figuring out what that something is. I am, happily, still hunting and figuring.

Since gov.'s school, i have sung, done lots of musical theatre, and even played keyboards in a Christian band. i miss my friends, esp. now that i have discovered this cool website. let me know if you were in instrumental music or on the newspaper staff or just ANYWHERE (The M hall, for example) - Anybody? GSW 1998. I love how everyone is a product of the system. Everyone says the sma ething as the last person. All I read is how people were fond of their GS memories, and how much they miss the program. I went to GSE'92 in Drama and loved it. I'm in Utah now. I've been married 3 years now and have a 3 month old son, Miles, who is the cutest, most intelligent baby that ever lived. I skimmed over every entry here and didn't see anyone from the group. If any of you guys are out there email me! KECK!

Lindsey Yadon told me about this list--boy, it's been a long time. Any other '78 West people out there? I haven't lived in NC for 20 years now, so I haven't had much opportunity to run into anyone to talk about the Killer Goldfish, the GSBS, D&D, Jacob Bronowski, etc., etc., though I did go to Harvard with several GS'ers, including Robert Kim, Jeen Kim, and Steve Parker, the latter of whom dropped out to become an itinerant preacher (no foolin'!).

Strange how you can be sitting on the other side of the world and having these wonderful memories of a bunch of kids in Laurinburg, NC for a summer....I'm the worst at keeping in touch but I think about you guys often. I'm away from UNC studying abroad "down under" this semester and it's incredible. Well, I have a thousand things to say to the Govees of '97 (especially all those social science kids) but I guess that's best saved for email :) Hope you are all doing well...and I love this webpage. Remember to ask a beautiful question....

I took a few minutes out an incredibly hectic day to check out this guestbook once again... and as always, it brought back too many wonderful memories... dancing in the rain on the last night... asking too many questions... Matt Morris' Area II and sexist philosophies ... late nights in the newspaper office proofreading *just one more time*... Communist parades... the wonderful service at Mayberry's... the irresistable walk down to the bakery... the awesome spontaneous concerts... too many people and not enough computers... the gloriousness of Koyanaskatsi... "what exactly are they, anyway?"... proving the existence of God mathematically... still not knowing what topology is... Keirkegaard, Schopenhaur, and Neitzche... and discovering how to love life for exactly what it is. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible - and continous greeting to all my friends from GSW99 and other venues as well... I can't wait until the symposium weekend this summer (only four more months!!!). Until then, take care of yourselves and _keep thinking_!!!

GSW '99 was such an awesome experience, i could never forget a moment of it. from the cage concerts (i've never before and probably never will again make music by blowing bubbles through my tuba) to the poor little dead stuffed animals hanging from trees, i must say it really opened my eyes and mind. its something i'm so glad i went to and wish so much i could be there again... and again... and again. i love you all, and i'm so glad we've stayed in touch through the e-group

this site has brought much needed tears to my eyes, and love to my heart, as i remember"from whence I came". I was a DRAMAFREAK at GSE in 97, turned beauty queen(long story!) and am currently persuing my performing dream as a singer/dancer on a cruise ship(hence the florida address), yet I know where I came from, what makes me who I am, and it is spitting red jello all over the audience, jello in general, feeding the turtles, hanging upside down on the causeway, avoiding unlit areas, "Youve got a Friend(with roses)Brad and Nick( you always have my heart)making out with mike(sorry paige) Margaret(one of the most talented people I know) Tara"short skirt" and emily and joe adn julia( the greensboro crowd) and countless others(reeves um, robby, you know I cant leave you out!) You shaped the girl that has become the woman that is living her dreams! Thank you!

GSE '97 Dramafreak here!!! Governor's school was most definitely the best time of my life. I didnt want to go at first, and my parents made me, and now I can't imagine what my life would have been without it. Remember "Let's sing 80's songs all the way to Greensboro?" by the lake, poetry readings, "Julia volunteers for tech work today" "Living on drama time, living on drama time, gonna set my watch to Eric's before he gets barbaric, living on drama time." Anyone who has the chance to go and is thinking about not going....YOu MUST GO!!! Where else can you see "8 Plays a Week??" The friends you make last forever.....

GSW 1999! What an experience! Only now do I realize just how great and life-changing it really was. Somewhere amid the greatest profundities of the modern world, Freudian discussion (I'll never view the Winston-Salem skyline the same way again), and the ever-increasing mounds of dirtly laundry lied one of the greatest experiences of my life: Governor's School West. Ah, those wonderful moments from GSW 99'. The good old Gramley pool table problems, the war between Them and Strong. The fires,people,plays,concerts,"why wasn't I president?"."what's the chicken like today?".Pickin on Jacara and paul, wonderful atmosphere. If Governor's School didn't change the aspect of thinking in your life, you were dead.

Hey everyone from GSW '98!! Hope everyone's doing well. I am currently at the NC School of the Arts working on a BM in voice performance. Opera specifically. I must say that my choraql experiences that summer surely helkped me in getting here. In fact, at our next concert here we're doing a piece that some of you may remember fondly from the good old dissonant GS days, "Psalm 90" by Charles Ives. I expect to graduate this May from Princeton with a BA in English and creative writing. After that I will head down to Miami (the furthest south I will have ever been) to intern as a news writer for The Miami Herald. After that, I would like to do some kind of international service work, hopefully somewhere on the west coast of Africa.

Sort of accidently on purpose found this site this evening. I've scanned through most og the guestbook entries and it appears that the majority of entries are from more recent classes, probably because those of us from some of the older classes didn't know that this was here. I attended GSE - 85. Some of my fondest memories are still from the time I spent experiencing Governor's School. THose of you who recenly attented I hope will still cherish your memories as the years go by.
